When you hire a commercial window cleaning service, you need more than just a window cleaner. You need a partner that is going to be accountable for cleaning your windows, and spotting and reporting any potential problems with window framing and film. And you need them to have the skills to properly address any issues they identify. You need to be able to trust your commercial window cleaning service to care for the overall integrity of your building’s window systems.

Licensing and insurance

First things first. Does your commercial window cleaning service provider have the proper licensing and insurance to do the job? This is an easy question to answer. Check with the city’s licensing department. You can often do that online in just a few minutes. Or check with your local Better Business Bureau. Ask to see a copy of the company’s current insurance coverage and make sure you understand what you are looking at. If you aren’t sure whether or not they have the proper insurance, and enough of it, call your own insurance broker and ask them. They will either know the answer or find it for you.

Equipment

Does the company have the proper equipment to do the job? We realize that you aren’t a professional window cleaner so making the call on this question might be a bit of a stretch. Ask for references. And ask those references what kind of equipment the team showed up with. Ask how well-versed they seemed to be with the equipment. Were they struggling or slowed down by equipment that didn’t seem well maintained? Answers to these questions will give you a surprising amount of insight.

Staff

Don’t forget to inquire about the team that will be washing your windows. Don’t fall for the old bait-and-switch. If the person you are dealing with has 20 years of commercial cleaning experience, but they hired their entire crew just before starting your job, chances are things are not going to go well. The same goes for crews with high turnover. Ask to meet the person taking the lead on your crew. Ask for references on projects that they previously led.

You don’t want to have to hire a commercial window washing service on a trial-and-error basis. That would just be expensive, time consuming, and incredibly frustrating.
